A new torrent web gui for Tinky!

Venerdì, Gennaio 25th, 2008

Yesterday night i finished porting Enhanced CTorrent and DCTCS (Yet anOther Dummy CTCS, an Enhanced CTorrent web frontend) to Tinky (our DUAL HDD NAS alternative firmware).

I just added to the Tinky-LS ipkg repository.

So, if you haven’t done it yet, add the repository to your Tinky configuration (see how here), and update the list of available packages doing a simple ‘ipkg-cl update‘.

Enjoy it and give me some feedback!

Since i had no time to edit the wiki accordling, to install the new release you have to follow previous version installation instructions.

All feedbacks are welcome on our forum.

How many StorLink-based NASes out there?

Domenica, Febbraio 10th, 2008

Surfing the web i found many StorLink-based NASes. I knew MRT Communications and RaidSonic used the StorLink processor. Now i found Freecom, too, with its Network Drive Pro, based on the StorLink GEMINI platform (the same as GIGABIT NAS). Good new: its firmware is not based on Sausalito, but on SnapGear linux distribution.

There’s a good community around that - named OpenFSG - that obtained complete firmware sources. I’ve tried them and i was surprised to see the built fine at first try. And built kernel and firmware image works fine on my GIGA NAS. But that firmware needs the first hard disk as rootfilesystem, and should be not custom-partitioned (like i need). So, i’ve to work on that to let this image work on a JFFS2 flash image.

As SamTruman told, there are two more NASes out there: Netgear ReadyNAS Duo and Thecus N299. I will investigate on them, ASAP.

About my project: i’m porting OpenWRT to the Gemini and Centroid platforms, to let us replace official firmwares with this great project firmware. I really need to have a flash-based image with many optional packages that can be installed using the web GUI.

So, if you are interested… simply stay tuned!

Tinky-LS for GIGA Nas is out!

Sabato, Febbraio 2nd, 2008

I know about many GIGA Nas users who bricked their Nas trying to upgrade the firmware to Tinky or Tinky-LS. That’s why included kernel is not compatible with the GIGA Nas one. So, you have to remove the kernel from the update firmware package. I did it for you. You can download it from here.

But be aware: it seems that GIGA Nas cannot be unbricked using the embedded bootloader telnet server, because - simply speaking - it hasn’t it. The only way to reload the right kernel image on its partition is building a 3.3V TTL serial adapter and using the bootloader console to do that.

Now you can enjoy Tinky-Ls without any pain!
